Labor day weekend EVENT 2009

leelanau

Come experience a relaxed weekend of outdoor fun, friendship, and inspiration on beautiful Lake Michigan.

Where: Christian Science Camps Leelanau / Kohahna
When: Labor Day Weekend September 4 through September 7, 2009, or add on a Day at Manitou starting Thursday September 3rd.

> It's time to take the leap! Your adventure is ready to begin...The ASCSA Labor Day Weekend (Friday, Sept 4- Monday, Sept. 7) is quickly approaching and we are excited to introduce a whole new location. Camp Leelanau and Kohahna in majestic Northern Michigan is going to be the NEW setting for an action packed weekend. (Check out www.leelanau-kohahna.org.) You will see below that we are sending out list of many of the great activities we are planning - like running down the backside of the sand dunes, ropes course and climbing wall, watercolor painting the local scenery, water skiing, visiting the Leelanau Observatory at night, and a swing dance party with an instructor.
> This trip truly is a vacation for one and all! The camp will provide staff to run all the activities and cook the meals so you can relax. You can sign up for every sunrise waterskiing trip or night hike or just be still or walk around the small little town called Glen Arbor and enjoy the special tea and gemstone talk offered for ASCSA at Becky Thatcher Designs.
> One of the highlights of the weekend for us is a wonderful Bible workshop entitled "Divine Economy" given by Eric Bashor of The Principle Foundation. This talk is so relevant to our world right now and engages all of us to think differently on how to address issues like scarcity, and shift to a more positive focus on what is truly abundant.
> There are two start times for the Labor Day event: Thursday evening September 3rd, which allows for an all-day cruise/hike to South Manitou Island, or Friday September 4th at noon. Both for a full weekend of activities! It will finish on Monday September 7th at noon. The cost will be in line with previous Labor Day events even though we are fortunate enough to have a wonderful staff from Leelanau and Kohahna to help us each step of the way. Cost details will be sent out next week.
> The big issue is that we need you to take action NOW. The camp is located thirty minutes outside of Traverse City, Michigan. There are three airlines that fly in and out of “TVC” (Northwest, American and United) so the advance planning is important in order to secure reasonable airfares. We encourage you to decide SOON to join us for the weekend, and make your travel plans as soon as possible. A cost-saving alternative to flying to Traverse City that we also recommend is flying Southwest to Detroit and renting a car. It usually takes around 4 hours to drive up from Detroit to camp but the difference in cost may be worth the extra effort, especially if you plan to carpool. We can help coordinate groups to carpool from Detroit, if you indicate that wish on the registration form.
> We are looking forward to hosting this event and will happily accept your input and ideas on making this weekend meet your needs. Both of us love Northern Michigan and can't wait for each of you to see the place we call "the most beautiful spot on earth." We hope you will all come and see for yourselves.

> On Friday, September 4, you have the opportunity to visit South Manitou Island (visible in the attached picture). It is a wonderful day trip but it definitely takes the whole day! Individuals will take a boat trip out to the island and then spend a few hours exploring this island. This will cost an additional charge of $32 for the boat trip and $8 if people want the guided island tour (hiking is free and trails are pretty well marked). Everyone who wishes to visit South Manitou Island must sign up in advance. This group would then be gone from 8:30 am to 6pm from camp.
